The Carl Maxey Center & Black Earth Day Spokane Presents🎥 Meaningful Movies
Join us at the Carl Maxey Center for a special pre–Black Earth Day film screening on April 11th from 1–5 PM. We’ll be showing two inspiring films: Rising, Rooted & Resilient and Rid-All Green Partnership, that highlight community leadership, environmental justice, and the power of urban agriculture. Come learn how communities are reclaiming land, growing food, and building sustainable futures. Refreshments will be provided, and all are welcome to attend.
Rid-All Green Partnership
This documentary tells the story of the Rid-All Green Partnership in Cleveland, Ohio, where community leaders transformed a once-abandoned dumping ground into a thriving urban farm and community hub. Through regenerative agriculture, education, and entrepreneurship, the project shows how growing food can also grow opportunity, pride, and resilience in a neighborhood. The film highlights the power of community action to restore land, strengthen local food systems, and inspire a healthier future.
Rising Rooted & Resilient
Rising, Rooted, and Resilient is a short documentary that highlights the power of community-led agriculture and food sovereignty. Set in Detroit’s North End, the film follows the work of the Detroit Black Community Food Sovereignty Network as they transform urban land into thriving farms that provide healthy food, economic opportunity, and a renewed sense of self-determination. Through the voices of farmers and organizers, the film shows how regenerative agriculture can rebuild neighborhoods, strengthen community bonds, and create a more sustainable and equitable future.
